After the gales of last week,I thought it would be a good idea in the aftermath of Storm Abigail to nip up to Arcadians and check to see if there was any real damage to the ‘cabinchaletshed’ and also around the grounds. On Monday I arrived at about 11.p.m. to be pleasantly surprised to see that apart from a smashed terracotta thermometer there wasn’t very much.
After clearing it up another member and I repaired a couple of fence panels before going home at around 2.p.m. Tuesday was rainy ☔ and in the early afternoon I had another job interview which went well (I’m still awaiting the outcome). During the afternoon I started thinking about improvements I could make and as Ginny was away on business for two days I could actually get them done.
With these ideas fresh in my mind Wednesday dawned bright so I headed of to Greenglades at around 9.30am. First it was time for a cuppa before I headed over to begin reorganising the back box and to put in a battery shelf. Having the batteries (used for lighting and phone charging) at ground level puts a stain on my back having to almost get into the box to attached the clips. After surveying the area I realised it wouldn’t or couldn’t be a designer model and I reckoned I could do it with just a few off-cuts. I manage to build the shelf fairly quickly and it adequately does the job. At the same time I rearranged a few things moved my tools and the job was done.
Next was the turn of the door handle as the old one has been sticking and after replacing the old one plus a few minor adjustments the next day that was done too. Meantime with my mind ticking over (that’s usual with me), I had also thought about putting some storage boxes under the bed as well this required moving two of the bed legs. Apart from having not much room to work in it was a piece of cake and was completed within an hour.
As is always the case we me (probably since the creation of ebay) I never like spending much (and always love a bargain). So with another offcut that was lying around, two hinges and a handle I’d salvaged ages ago from a flat pack, I made a door for the kitchen area. It still needs adjusting, painting and a decent catch but all in all I was pleased with my effort. It was almost time to go and the weather was not to bad for the time of year about 10c so as I’d got all hot and sweaty in my clothes I had final cuppa and a cool off for 10 minutes before returning home just before it got dark.
With late November already upon us the unthinkable has come into my mind ! “It’s nearly Christmas 🎅” I’m not a great one for celebrating Christmas as its all to commercial these days and people tend to go way over the top however I do look forward to it for a couple of reasons. The first is just before the winter solstice occurs meaning the nights get very fractionally less dark and the second is after new year,we are closer to springtime.
