I suppose this time of year is for me a time when there’s little inspiration to write and not enough good weather for us to either go out with the cameras or to take our clothes off and get some sunshine. England at this time of year rarely suffers from chronic bad weather but it tends to be drab rainy and damp. I’ve been working hard since Christmas so at the end of February I decided to take a few days off to recharge my batteries and also to get some jobs done and have a day or two out somewhere.
As we’ve been going away to naturist campsites over the past six years we decided to pay a visit to the caravan, camping and motorhome show at the National Exhibition Centre in Birmingham. Regular readers over the past six years might recall we visited London Excel exhibition several years ago but this was our first visit to the NEC.
We got ourselves up early and our arses into gear and left for the NEC just after 9am so we missed the rush hour traffic. After a drive of around 2 hours we arrived at the Caravan, Camping & Motorhome Show, just after 11. There were nearly 350 exhibitors exhibiting everything from tents to the most modern motorhomes, luxurious tourer caravans to compact campervans as well as accessories galore.
There were plenty of holiday ideas to inspire everybody’s summer camping or road trip and attractions that also included an indoor assault course, live cookery, celebrity appearances, expert talks, towing & motorhome tuition as well as dog agility displays and bushcraft workshops.
As we don’t have much spare cash these days we used it as just a day out but we can dream of having a caravan or motorhome one day in the distant future. This didn’t of course stop me collecting many catalogues and brochures. We may not go back to another show until we’ve the money to buy a caravan or trailer tent but at least our enthusiasm has been restored ahead of the 2017 camping season.
